These earrings feature the Cosmos, the representative flower of autumn. We crafted deep red cosmos flowers using Mino Washi (Japanese paper). Adding gold to the mature red color further enhances its elegance. At the tip of the cosmos, a tortoise-shell colored bead swings and sparkles. I had wanted to create a cosmos design for many years, but it was difficult to realize until now. By using "two shades of red" for the petals, I was able to express the three-dimensional effect of the flower without making it look monotonous, even with a simple design. The front of the cosmos has a matte texture where the fibers of the washi paper remain visible. The back is thickly coated with resin to make it smooth and durable. When held up to the light, the fibers of the washi paper appear and disappear within the vivid red, just like the veins of real petals. Against a bright background, it looks vividly red. Against a darker background, it turns into a rich, chic Bordeaux. It is a piece that satisfies both the desire for a "mature" look and a "cute" look. Mino Washi is made by using plenty of water from the Nagara River, a clear stream in Gifu Prefecture, to bleach the kozo (paper mulberry), which is the raw material of washi paper, over time. Mino Washi is created by pouring in the blessings of Gifu.
