Fashion icon Rei Kawakubo has a deep love for black. For many years, Comme des Garçons has used black and asymmetry to explore the aesthetic ideals of wabi-sabi within the concepts of "nothingness" and "space." Inspired by this, we sought to capture the beauty of black on black through crystals and copper wire. We began with the structured yet raw rutilated quartz and selected black obsidian with natural, distinct markings as the foundation. Transparent crystals were then irregularly interwoven, creating a momentary aesthetic of "black space" and "negative space" when illuminated by light.
