Ming Xuande Blue and White Tingzhou Egret Motif Cricket Jar - Teapots & Teacups - Porcelain White

Product Description

Total Height: 10 cm Bottom Diameter: 11.5 cm Top Diameter: 13 cm The cricket jar takes on a cylindrical form with a deep curved belly, and the mouth and base are alike with a shallow circular foot. It is accompanied by a flat lid, with the lid's edge slightly recessed, presenting a "flat-lid style." The inner edge of the lid is unglazed. On the exterior, it is adorned with blue and white paintings of herons, reeds, riverbanks, and various flowers. Five herons are depicted among the reeds and vines, either bowing to search for food, strolling gracefully, looking up at the sky, or glancing back, each displaying unique and leisurely elegance. The lid's surface is painted with two white herons—one standing beside a cluster of flowers and the other soaring with outstretched wings, exuding a vibrant and graceful vitality. The lid's floral patterns resemble a scene of birds and flowers on a round fan, while the unfolded patterns on the jar's surface resemble segments from a painting, creating a harmonious interplay of two scenes, evoking a serene and tranquil ambiance of water and sky. The inner bottom of the lid and the inner foot of the jar bear the six-character mark "Made during the Xuande reign of the Great Ming," inscribed with neat and powerful strokes. The overall body of the jar is thick, dense, and robust, with a firm and pure texture. The blue and white colors are vibrant with subtle variations, and the delicate and lively decorative patterns are well-balanced and meticulously crafted. This Xuande blue and white piece stands as an exquisite work, rich in cultural and artistic appeal, showcasing the charm appreciated by connoisseurs.
