Blue-Green Iridescent Roman Glass and Garnet, Amethyst Earrings

These earrings feature iridescent Roman glass in a blue-green hue, connected with garnets and amethysts. Roman glass dates back to the Roman Empire (27 BCE – 395 CE). These pieces are fragments of ancient vessels, polished and drilled. Iridescence occurs when glass is buried underground for long periods, causing a chemical reaction between the glass and soil components, resulting in this sparkling luminescence. Not all buried glass develops this iridescence; it only appears when specific conditions align. Both glass pieces display a beautiful iridescent sheen. Minor chips are present on both pieces. The glass itself is a blue-green color. The iridescent glow appears depending on how light hits the surface.
