Marble, formed over millennia through recrystallization from limestone or dolomite due to contact and regional metamorphism, presents a significant challenge in its hardness when crafting products. Imagine the surprise of incorporating marble into leather goods, akin to humanity's ambition to reach space! We meticulously slice the stone into thin layers using machinery, preserving its natural strata and tactile qualities. The stone features a limestone base with grey and black mineral undertones, enhanced by a special spraying technique that creates beautiful, random patterns. Each piece is unique. The ruggedness of marble is artfully contrasted with the suppleness of leather, forging a distinct aesthetic of conflict between the coarse and the smooth, the rough and the refined. After two years of preparation and technical refinement, Matt Studio proudly launched its marble and leather collection in 2021. We challenged the craft of stone processing, integrating it with leather through precision engineering and complex techniques. The term "Dou Gong," a distinctive feature of ancient Chinese temple architecture, likely sparks curiosity. This series draws inspiration from it, with the primary design challenge being its integration into a modern aesthetic. Driven by a passion for temple architecture, and bridging the gap between ancient and modern contexts, the "Dragon Soaring, Phoenix Dancing - Dou Gong Series" finally emerged with contemporary motifs. Initially, we specifically targeted young professionals and office workers. A preview of the collection at the 2021 Taiwan Creative Expo (April 16-25) garnered significant affirmation and praise from many young attendees, who were amazed by the unique fusion of marble and leather. This, indeed, is Matt Studio's signature of perfection. In today's trend of "deconstructed bags," this piece embraces that aesthetic with its compact and exquisite design, yet it is far from being "deconstructed" in terms of functionality. It can comfortably hold a medium-sized wallet, eyeglasses, and a large smartphone. Its practicality is undeniable.
