Vintage Dutch copper and embossed brass silent butler / ash collector

Vintage Dutch copper and embossed brass silent butler, also known as an ash butler. These items were used in speakeasies and taverns of olden day to collect the ashes from ashtrays. This is a mid last century reproduction and, as it is lacking signs of usage, has most likely functioned as a decorative piece. It was made at the famous Rio pewter factory in Tiel, which was operational between 1910 and 1985. This piece has some signs of aging, such as oxidation on the metal as well as surface marks and a couple of small cracks on the rim.
