**About the Artist: Hsieh Chung-Jen**
Born in Fangyuan Township, Changhua County in 1973
Began learning jade carving in Taipei in 1988
Studied Advertising Design in vocational school in 1993, integrating design concepts into his work
Established his own studio in 1994
2000: Received an Honorable Mention in the Craft category at the 14th Nan Ying Arts Exhibition for "Poised to Strike." Exhibited in a joint jade exhibition at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.
August: Participated in a joint jade exhibition at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.
2001: Invited for live carving at the Hualien International Arts Festival's Indigenous Creation Zone.
2002: Selected for the "Dream of Craftsmanship" award at the 10th Taiwan Craft Design Competition. Joint jade exhibition at the Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau in January. Exhibited in a jade and stone carving exhibition at the "Flowers and Trees Carnival" in Changhua County in May. Invited by the Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Cultural Foundation for the "Garden of Stones" exhibition, held in department stores across northern, central, and southern Taiwan from October to December.
2003: Invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute to exhibit works such as "Lotus Ecosystem" at the "Taitung Local Crafts Exhibition" in the Presidential Office.
2004: Featured in the "Art and Culture Corridor – Hsieh Chung-Jen Jade Stone Exhibition" on National Education Radio from March to June. Selected for the "Dream of Craftsmanship" award at the 12th Taiwan Craft Design Competition. Solo exhibition at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall from October to January 2005.
2005: Invited by the National Taiwan Museum to exhibit the piece "Taiwanese Snacks – Braised Pork Rice." Participated in the "1000 Faces of Sherlock Holmes" exhibition in collaboration with the National Museum of the Czech Republic from June to September. Launched the brand "Yu Ning Shi" with counters in department stores. Exhibited at the Pacific Sogo Department Store's "Craftsmanship Masters" exhibition in mid-December.
2007: Invited to participate in the "Craftsmanship at Zero Distance – Application of Living Crafts Exhibition" organized by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute at the Executive Yuan Gallery.
2008: His work "Japanese-Style Nigiri Sushi" was selected for the National Taiwan Craft Research Institute's "Taiwan Craft Competition."
2012: His work "Half Thought" received an honorable mention in the Traditional Craft category at the Ministry of Culture and National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute's "Taiwan Craft Competition." His work "Tranquil Mountain Landscape" received an honorable mention in the Craft category at the 21st Tainan City Nan Ying Arts Award.
2013: Exhibited at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall's "Cross-Strait Jade Carving Masters Exchange," invited to showcase in the Taiwanese Jade Carving Masters section.
2016: Invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute to exhibit three works – "Japanese-Style Nigiri Sushi," "Handmade Mini Mochi," and "Moment of Leap" – at the Presidential Office Gallery's "Gathering Around the Fire – Sustainable Craftsmanship Exhibition."
2017: His work "Lingering Lotus in Spring" received an Honorable Mention at the Taoyuan City Taoyuan Art Exhibition.
2018: Held his solo exhibition, "Hsieh Chung-Jen's 30 Years of Jade Carving – The Continuation of Culture," at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall.
2019: From January to June, invited by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute to exhibit his work "Auspicious Dragon Presenting Auspiciousness" at the Presidential Office Gallery's "Feast · Happiness" exhibition.
2020: "Heartfelt Artistry – Taiwan Craft Development Association Fine Arts Exhibition" was jointly exhibited at the Hsinchu County Cultural Affairs Bureau (July 29 - August 16) and the Taipei Dangdai Contemporary Craft Design Branch of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (October 6, 2020 - February 28, 2021).
2021: Exhibited his work "Japanese-Style Nigiri Sushi" at the "Creative Regeneration Green Craft" exhibition hosted by the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute in October-November. His work "Handmade Mini Mochi" was selected for the 2021 Taiwan Craft Competition and toured at the Taipei Dangdai Contemporary Craft Design Branch of the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Xinyi Store, Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Tainan Ximen Store, and Taichung Store.
