French Neoclassical Style Horae Brass Stamp Box
A charming stamp box, designed in a Neoclassical style, featuring three embossed faces of the Horae, corresponding to the three compartments within for holding stamps. The base of this stamp box is brass, which would have originally been gilded. However, through the refinement of time, the gilding shows noticeable wear and oxidation.
Neoclassicism is a Western revival and adaptation of the classical styles of ancient Greece and Rome. The Neoclassical movement flourished in the early 19th century. This movement achieved remarkable expression in visual arts, literature, drama, music, and architecture, following Rococo and preceding Art Nouveau.
