Collection description
Yun Shouping (1633-1690 AD), the master of flower painting in the Qing Dynasty, adopted a sketching attitude and learned from the ancients in his paintings. This painting is selected from the "Ancient Copies" and uses the "boneless method" created by the Northern Song Dynasty painter Xu Chongsi to paint two peonies. One is in bud and the other is in full bloom. Yun once said that in order to paint flowers extremely vividly, each pose needs to change, and the viewer should feel as if the fragrance of flowers is coming from the painting. The entire work is made with boneless coloring, instead of using ink to outline, and directly dyeing with colored stains, and then adding outlines of the muscles and bones. The colors are bright and pure, and the style is original.
