Burmese Daluo Spell Bead Bracelet (Length 18cm, Inner Diameter 14.5cm)

Twenty Daluo spell beads of various sizes, recovered from a collapsed pagoda in Mandalay, Myanmar. These are Daluo spell beads in the form of drilled prayer beads. They have been cleaned to remove oxidation and patina. The beads are made of copper alloy, containing gold, though in small proportions. Cinnabar was added during the smelting process. The beads appear yellow and bright in photographs, but they will oxidize and darken over time if not regularly polished. The largest average diameter of the larger beads is between 1.1-1.2 cm. The largest average diameter of the smaller beads is between 0.9-0.95 cm. Dating is based on other artifacts unearthed with the pagoda. The estimated period is the 18th-19th century. These prayer bead-style spell beads were typically placed in pagodas in sets of 108 beads... Due to the humid environment within the pagoda, the original string decomposed due to oxidation and broke... After being collected by artifact dealers in Myanmar, they are sold in Taiwan as individual beads... We were fortunate to acquire some... and have strung them into bracelets. These are unique relics imbued with religious blessings.
