However, over time, it darkens due to a process called "sulfidation" caused by components in the air. If you're concerned about brass darkening or tarnish, you can polish it back to its original shine with commercially available brass polishing agents. Darkening can also be prevented by storing it in a sulfidation-preventing bag or by storing it with sulfidation-preventing chips in a sealable bag. In the summer, sweat and moisture may cause blue marks or darkening on your fingers, but washing the item will not have any adverse effects, so please rest assured.
