Hot water chilled scarlet a

This cooled yu-zamashi tea has a deep flavor with its shades of scarlet and earthy texture. A yuzamashi is a container used to cool boiled water in order to make delicious tea. I make use of my experience learning Ogawa-ryu Sencha tea. This piece is carefully made on a potter's wheel using coarse Shigaraki clay that contains feldspar. The scarlet color that is characteristic of Shigaraki ware is produced in a gas kiln. The high temperature of the firing causes the coarse Stone in the clay to melt and come to the surface. Each Stone on the surface is polished by hand to a smooth finish so that it fits comfortably in the hand. It is easy to hold and drains water very well. It can also be used as a side dish or small bowl for serving seasonal sashimi, vinegared dishes, etc. You can enjoy watching the depth of the color increase as you use it.
