Crafted with the "Navel Base" weaving technique,
accented with an openwork pattern.
Simple yet imbued with artisanal charm.
The "Navel Base" is formed by the rhythmic interweaving of several strands of rush,
resembling a rush grass waltz.
As the strands weave and advance, they intertwine,
creating a raised center that marks the path of their rotation.
*The recessed base of the coaster accommodates the raised center, ensuring stability when placed.

| Characteristics

Moisture-wicking and quick-drying
And, of course, a unique natural grassy fragrance~
Taiwanese rush grass, native to central Taiwan, boasts a captivating natural aroma.
In the past, rush grass was primarily used to weave sleeping mats, hence its nickname "Mat Grass." It is highly absorbent, breathable, and smooth against the skin, offering a cooling sensation upon touch. With continued use, it develops a beautiful sheen over time, making it a natural fiber that truly enhances daily living.
Taiwan has a nearly three-hundred-year-old tradition of rush grass weaving. Each item is meticulously handcrafted by local grandmothers and aunts, imbued with the full spirit of Taiwan.
**|| Rush Grass Weaving Process ||**
Growth | 3-4 months of growth
Drying | Approximately 5-7 days of sun-drying after harvest until golden yellow and completely moisture-free
Sorting | Categorizing by length and trimming ends
Selecting | Choosing evenly thick stalks before weaving
Preparing Stems | Removing undeveloped leaf sheaths from the stem ends
Pounding | Breaking down the stalk's structure to make it pliable for weaving
For finer items, two additional steps are included: "Splitting Grass" (further dividing the triangular rush stalks into two or three finer strands) and "Kneading Grass" (rubbing to remove the white fibers from within the grass).
**|| A Little Story About Taiwanese Rush Grass ||**
Grandmothers and mothers tell stories of how people used to care for their rush grass.
They favored the "black gold" hue that rush grass develops.
This deep color typically appeared naturally over time with use.
However, some would accelerate this process by wiping the grass with tea water to darken its color.
