Watches marked with the "lightning bolt" were produced by Seiko's "Daini Seikosha" (Second Seiko Works), while those with the "swirl" were from "Suwa Seikosha". In 1881, Mr. Kintaro Hattori established "K Hattori" watch shop in Tokyo's Higashi-Hashi district, primarily for clock repair and resale. In 1892, Mr. Hattori acquired a closed glass factory in Tokyo and founded Seikosha, focusing on clock manufacturing. In 1913, Seikosha officially produced its first wristwatch, the Laurel. In 1937, Seiko established Daini Seikosha in Kameido, Tokyo, specifically responsible for the research, development, and production of wristwatches. In 1959, the Suwa factory of Daini Seikosha and Daiwa Kogyo officially merged, spinning off Suwa Seikosha. From then on, the two major Seiko factories each created one classic after another, such as the first domestic dive watch (6217), the first automatic chronograph (6139), and the first mass-produced quartz watch (Seiko Astron), not to mention the iconic GS and KS series.
