【Wood Firing】 An ancient method of kiln firing pottery. During the firing process, components like potassium, sodium, and calcium from the wood ash combine with the mineral elements in the clay at high temperatures, creating a natural ash glaze on the ceramic body.
Wood firing reaches temperatures above 1300°C, where the fusion of clay and fire allows the colors of the cup to flow naturally and mysteriously. During firing, the natural ash glaze may adhere to the kiln shelf, requiring subsequent polishing. While often resulting in works of breathtaking artistry, they are rarely perfectly preserved, making each piece a unique masterpiece, one of a kind in the world.
