Corundum, derived from the Sanskrit word "Kurand," signifies hardness. Typically formed in igneous and metamorphic rocks, corundum develops different colors due to the inclusion of various elemental ions. ● With the exception of red corundum, known as "Ruby," blue corundum as "Sapphire," and pinkish-purple corundum as "Padparadscha," all other colors are commonly referred to as "Sapphire," simply preceded by the color name, such as Yellow Sapphire or Pink Sapphire.
