Single-Flower Vase in Red Earthenware and White Glaze

This coarse red clay allows you to enjoy the comforting warmth and textured feel unique to earthenware. After shaping it into a plump, rounded single-flower vase, it was fired with a lustrous, fluid white glaze. The form is subtly narrowed at the base, giving it a clean, yet simple, appearance. The interplay of the red clay particles and the white glaze creates a finish reminiscent of a snowscape. All stages of production, from wedging the clay to shaping, trimming, drying, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are meticulously done by hand in my studio, equipped with an electric pottery wheel and a medium-sized electric kiln. Due to the porous nature of pottery, this piece has been treated with a sealant to ensure water retention. We have confirmed that this sealant prevents water seepage for approximately 40 hours. However, there is a possibility of slight moisture appearing on the bottom due to evaporation. If this is a concern, placing a fabric mat underneath can provide peace of mind. I explore various combinations of glazes and clays, constantly seeking the best pairings to create a diverse range of ceramic pieces in both color and form. Each piece is unique, subtly different from the last, making them truly one-of-a-kind. It would be a great joy if you could find a piece that speaks to you.
