The concept of Lydia came about with the idea to create a brooch that would look like it is a part of the clothing. To explain this further, take for example, an animal standing on a mountain would look outstanding and becomes an accent to the mountain’s surface, whereas a cluster of trees or plants growing on the same mountain would look like it is part of the mountain’s surface as if the trees are integrated into that surface. Lydia is created so that it might create a similar visual effect as an integral part of the clothing on which it is worn.
Lydia is composed of small units that look like a natural cluster of little flowers or leaves in random sizes and each connected to one another with a small gap in-between. The gaps in-between the units reveal the fabric of the clothing, creating a somewhat ‘translucent’ effect to the brooch, as well as allowing the brooch to look like it is integrated as part of the fabric. The small units have cone-like structures creating an intriguing surface and play of shadows, creating a unique texture and presence to this item.
