𓃥 About the Book
"Little Fox's Mother, Mother's Little Fox," two years in the making, is a picture book designed to be read from either side. Through its warm and moving story, it sheds light on the plight of animals in the fur farming industry. Fox cubs, only a few months old, are separated from their mothers on farms. They search for each other with all their strength, experiencing many twists and turns, encountering all sorts of people and things. Every detail is connected to the fur industry. What makes this book unique is:
# Two Ways to Read, Twice the Fun
Open from the little fox's cover to read the story of the cub searching for its mother. Open from the mother fox's cover to read the story of the mother searching for her cub. Flipping the book around offers different perspectives, making reading as fun as a game!
# Life Education Starts Young
Parents and children can read together, using the story to convey the importance of life education.
# Conscious Consumers
Fur products are all around us. Even with the utmost care, it's easy to encounter them unexpectedly. This book illustrates many fur-related items. Read together and become a loving, conscious consumer!
# Collaborative Publishing
"Little Fox's Mother, Mother's Little Fox" is published in collaboration with the Taiwan Academy of Arts and the Society for the Protection of Animals, made possible by their grants. We are fortunate to have the funding to print this book. As this is our first book, we wanted to preserve our independent, original spirit, so we decided to print and sell it ourselves.
𓃥 Author's Note
Animal Protection, Accelerating Progress
During a visit to Finland, I met a fox named Otto at a farm animal sanctuary. He shared a small enclosure with another fox named Unelma (meaning "dream" in Finnish). Every evening, Otto liked to sleep on a high shelf inside a wooden hut. He appeared healthy, lively, and playful. However, the marks left by his time in a fur farm were profound. Otto is the inspiration for the mother fox in this story, and he is one of the very few fortunate foxes! In reality, it is extremely difficult for fur animals to escape from farms. They spend their entire lives in small cages, with no opportunity to express their natural behaviors or develop survival skills. Farms also set up traps to recapture any animals that manage to escape.
Love Them, Don't Own Them
The inspiration for the little fox in this story came from a white fox cub I encountered in Beijing. Lost and alone on a busy street in the vast city, he was found by a kind man who initially mistook him for a puppy due to his sharp features. Was he a kitten? Not quite... A trip to the animal hospital revealed he was an arctic fox cub. His cries were exceptionally high-pitched and faint, as if calling for his family. Amidst the city's traffic, leaving him on the street would have put him at grave risk of being hit by a car. We didn't know how to care for a fox cub. But if we released him into the countryside, could he survive on his own?
