Dear Grown-ups and Children:
Hello everyone! I'm Lollipop, a member of the bus family! First, let me test you: When did buses first appear in Hong Kong? Actually, the first bus began operating in Hong Kong over a hundred years ago.
In the 1970s and 1980s, the Hong Kong bus industry flourished, with routes covering Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. It was also an era of great diversity in bus models. Hong Kong, with its limited land and large population, has an urgent demand for transportation. In 1949, during the British colonial era, Hong Kong introduced the double-decker bus, a symbol of "London." Today, the double-decker bus, lightweight, fuel-efficient, and able to carry a large number of passengers, has become one of Hong Kong's essential modes of transport, closely related to the lives of its citizens.
On behalf of the members of the bus family, I welcome you to the "Bus Story" exhibition hall. I will explore with you the brief history of Hong Kong's bus industry development, related brand stories, and various interesting trivia about buses.
Are you all ready?
Bus Stop Sign
*Lollipop
*The early bus stop signs were made of an iron pole with a circular iron plate and a bus wheel as a base, colloquially known as a "Lollipop."

About the Establishment of the "Brand Museum"
The publishing project launched under the name "Hong Kong Brand Museum" was initiated in 2020! We love museums in cities because they are spaces for cultural preservation and inheritance, as well as places for intergenerational exchange and learning. However, although commercial brands play a significant role in the historical and cultural development of a region, the relationship between brands and exhibits in public museums is often not fully expressed and is even deliberately erased to "avoid suspicion."
We are promoting the establishment of a "Brand Museum" in Hong Kong to re-explore exhibits and content related to Hong Kong brands, embody the intangible cultural heritage of the Hong Kong spirit, achieve inheritance, share knowledge, and provide a joyful experience like a journey, all while learning relevant knowledge.
The "Brand Museum" begins as a non-physical exhibition space. In addition to avoiding disproportionate resource consumption on Hong Kong's valuable land, we also aim to focus on using cross-platform methods such as books and websites to help adults and children easily rediscover "overlooked" Hong Kong memories and understand and experience the true history, product design, and unique business stories of Hong Kong brands.
Through each theme story in the "Brand Museum" series, we hope to showcase the unique historical background, product creativity, related design aesthetics, industry development, and product science knowledge of different local brands, ensuring that outstanding and unique Hong Kong brand stories are passed down. We believe that the imprint of each Hong Kong brand story can enrich children's understanding of the historical culture of their homeland and teach them to appreciate the people and things often overlooked in daily life.
Brands are stories: Children can learn about the Hong Kong spirit from the development process of brands.
Brands are culture: Closely linked to life through development trajectories in different eras.
Brands are daily life: Understanding various industries and how to navigate everyday life.
Brands are taste: Cultivating aesthetic appreciation from a young age and appreciating creative design works.
Brands are heritage: The stories and values of the hard work of every generation of Hongkongers.
Through the "Brand Museum" series of original parent-child co-reading picture books, we hope parents and children can deepen their understanding of local brands rooted in Hong Kong and the interesting stories closely related to our lives.
Welcome to the "Brand Museum" and join our extended reading platform!
