Experience a new way to enjoy coffee and tea. The "Rim Mug" was born from the concept of "wanting to deeply pursue aroma and drinking texture." Led by designer Takaaki Hamano (promoduction), the product development journey began. We consulted with experts in aroma fields such as baristas and perfumers, and brought together mold makers for shape development, artisans for body production, and experts in glazes and pigments, along with designers, to embark on the development of this new type of mug. Focus on Aroma, Texture, and Feel For a mug to fully capture the aroma of beverages like coffee, a "barrel shape" that concentrates aroma—meaning a narrower opening—is ideal. However, for the drinking experience, a "flared shape"—a wider opening—allows the beverage to flow in smoothly. To achieve these seemingly contradictory characteristics, we incorporated a "motase" thickness treatment at the rim. This design retains the thin rim craftsmanship that Hatawan Touen is known for. Through this approach, while the exterior maintains a barrel-like silhouette that concentrates aroma, the interior naturally expands, creating a smooth drinking experience akin to a flared shape. Furthermore, to enhance comfortable handling, we specifically designed the handle to fit snugly against the fingers, positioned lower on the mug body. This ensures good weight distribution even when the mug is full, effectively reducing strain on the fingers and demonstrating meticulous attention to user experience. ____________________ **1.
