Design Abstract During a studio relocation a few years ago, a trove of treasured leftover materials and half-finished prototypes came back into view. Perhaps it was a commitment to "sustainability versus reverence" that sparked the "Wooden Utility Knife" design project. Design Philosophy Infusing the cool precision of a utility knife with the warmth of natural wood, this design brings a touch of organic comfort to your hand. The moment you hold it, you'll feel the embrace of its ergonomically sculpted curves and exquisite comfort. In our material selection, we aim to convey the rich texture and natural aroma of solid wood. This design can be paired with the folding-blade utility knife from the renowned Japanese brand OLFA. OLFA was the world's first manufacturer to develop the folding-blade utility knife, and many current utility blade lengths, widths, and thicknesses are based on their standards. About Walnut Wood: Walnut is a premium wood, primarily found in North America and Europe, with American Black Walnut being the most prized species. Black Walnut is a dense, resilient hardwood with moderate resistance to bending and breaking, and strong impact resistance. It bends well with steam, has a low shrinkage rate, and exhibits excellent dimensional stability when dried. Its heartwood is highly resistant to decay, making it one of the most durable woods, even in corrosive environments. The sapwood of Black Walnut is pale brown, while the heartwood ranges from light to deep chocolate brown, sometimes with purple or darker streaks. The grain is usually straight, occasionally wavy or curly, and tangential cuts can reveal beautiful parabolic figuring, known as "waterfall" or "cathedral" patterns, creating visually pleasing decorative motifs. Black Walnut finishes exceptionally well with stains and dyes, and polishes to a superb sheen. To highlight its unique grain, color, and texture, it is often used for furniture and other interior architectural products, as well as for various craft applications.
