**Ocean Sunfish**
Also known as Mola mola, the Ocean Sunfish is nicknamed the "sunfish" because it likes to lie on its side on the surface of the sea, basking in the sun, resembling a sun in the ocean.
The Ocean Sunfish primarily moves by undulating its dorsal and anal fins. Its clumsy and slow movement makes it often preyed upon by other marine creatures or caught by humans. The reason for its survival is its powerful reproductive capacity: a single female can lay three hundred million eggs, making it the most prolific egg-laying fish in the ocean. Despite this, even with such a large number of eggs laid, the chance of survival is only one in a million, resulting in few surviving hatchlings.
In the past, Hualien, Taiwan, used to hold an annual Ocean Sunfish Festival. While it brought economic benefits to the local area, it led to an ecological catastrophe and a drastic decline in the Ocean Sunfish population, causing the festival to be discontinued in 2006.
**IUCN Status: Vulnerable (VU)**
