Lin Chih-chu was born in Taichung, Taiwan. Devoting his life to Eastern Gouache painting creation, he is considered one of the icons in Taiwan's modern art. He excelled in mastering the senses of colors and layers, and his painting always reveals the natural elegance. He is thus honored as "the Father of Taiwan's Eastern Gouache Painting."
In "Bathing in the Morning", Lin depicted the morning glory in the misty morning with a pale and greyish color tone. The female overlooking the white goat in the elegant kimono at the left side of the painting was the wife of the painter; while the painter projected himself to the white goat, looking back at the woman. The painting signifies the lovesickness of two separated lovers. In 1940, as part of the celebration of the 2600th anniversary in Japanese Imperial Year, "Bathing in the Morning" was selected by the Imperial Art Academy Exhibition in honor of the Emperor.
