Seeing Humanity Through the Heart Some people see the world through their eyes; others see humanity through the heart. Being blindfolded does not mean losing the ability to see. Instead, by quieting the noise of the outside world, we allow our awareness to return inward. The woman in the artwork stands with her face gently lifted, surrounded by roses and layers of softly draped fabric. Though she appears serene, there is a quiet strength within her—a force that turns the gaze inward. With graphite, I portray the light and shadow, textures, and sense of weight within the plaster figure and its flowing fabric. Between black and white, I search for light, and for the distance between ourselves and our inner world. Seeing Humanity Through the Heart expresses another way of understanding what it means to see— when we no longer rely solely on our eyes to judge the world before us, perhaps we can truly see others, see ourselves, and recognize the quiet tenderness that often remains unseen. This is a work about seeing, awareness, and the inner experience of being human.
