**Sika Deer Formosan Sika Deer**
Taiwan sika deer are endemic subspecies of Taiwan, named after the white markings on the back.
Since ancient times, the beautiful deer skin of sika deer has been attracting indiscriminate catching. During the period of Japanese colonial rule, deer herds were still seen along the water source in Jingmei, Muzha and Wulai. However, after 1969, due to the destruction of the habitat and the wild hunting of humans, the number of Taiwanese sika deer gradually decreased. All of the people I have seen have been raised artificially in the rehabilitation plan of Kenting National Park.
**IUCN rank: Wild Extinction (EW)**
