Heraclitu River

We are always trying to hold on to something that will not change—a relationship, an identity, a dream, or even the person we believe ourselves to be in this very moment. But what if we have been changing all along? Perhaps the person you were yesterday is already slightly different from the person you are today. And the person you become tomorrow will never be exactly the same as the person you are now. In this work, the artist draws upon Heraclitus’ river as a metaphor for life, allowing the idea of constant flow to move beyond philosophy and into the experience of being human. Between the two paintings, an invisible river is left behind. It cannot be seen, yet it connects one moment to another. It carries away what has already passed, while continuously bringing something new into existence. Perhaps life is not about holding on to a fixed version of ourselves, but learning to recognize who we are while we are still becoming. Like a river, we move forward without ever remaining exactly the same.
