About Wood Firing 'Wood firing' is a traditional kiln firing method, burning at high temperatures above 1200 degrees Celsius with firewood. It features 'fire marks' naturally left by the direct contact of firewood on the ceramic body, and the ash naturally falling from the burning wood, resulting in a warm, lustrous, and rich color variation that cannot be achieved by electric or gas kilns. Compared to ordinary electric and gas kilns, the entire process of wood firing—from loading the kiln, ignition, sealing the kiln, to cooling down—takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the intense kiln pressure, along with factors like climate humidity, wood dryness, human-controlled stoking speed, and kiln loading position, can all influence the success or failure of the work, leading to a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artisans consider the kiln's airflow speed when loading the kiln, planning the placement of works of different sizes, estimating the upward path of the flame, how to stoke with wood and charcoal, and the degree of firing.
