Acquired from an overseas collector
Dated to the late Edo period / late 19th century
Bronze alloy, with a stable antique patina and a substantial feel
The five-prong section above the handle: cast in sections
Then assembled with tin joining (a seldom-seen technique)
The bell body features multiple incised circular lines, with clean contours and a distinct sense of age
The bell hammer was originally tied with a cotton cord
Has been refitted with a stainless steel chain after returning to Taiwan (for more stable use)
The mid-section of the handle commonly features four incised circles
Traditionally interpreted as symbolizing the four eyes of Mahāvairocana
Often used in rituals and ceremonies for purification, practice, and meditation
