[Introduction]
We rarely proactively seek to understand death, let alone contemplate it. It's only when death appears directly before us that we truly give it serious consideration. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2019 led to a record high number of deaths in Hong Kong, prompting society to confront the reality of mortality. This spurred numerous educational activities, interviews, and information releases, offering valuable reminders and moments of reflection. However, in this era of information overload, we need to learn how to think about death to avoid being overwhelmed by the deluge of data.
Chiu Mong Sang, the author, established the "Death Institute" IG page and YouTube channel as early as 2022, hoping to inspire more people to contemplate death.
This is an introductory book on death, presented in four parts comprising 10 lessons. It guides readers through the life lessons that "death" teaches us. The content covers theories and definitions, as well as practical aspects such as emotional management, life review, medical arrangements, and even the processes and breakdown of funeral rites. The book balances theory with practice, making it suitable for individual study or for use in small groups, schools, organizations, churches, and other settings.
The author says: "Death always catches us off guard, until we learn to face it." It is hoped that the gentle light within these pages will empower readers to thoughtfully consider death, and in doing so, to live more fully.
