Marbling refers to the combination of different colored clays. Patterns are assembled from different colored clays into a long cylindrical shape, much like a sushi roll. When sliced, these reveal multiple pieces of clay with similar patterns, which are then shaped into plates. Vessels made using the marbling technique possess unique characteristics; the patterns appear on both the front and back. Due to the marbling process, the patterns undergo natural distortions during shaping, such as stretching and twisting, as if the design itself is alive!
Crafted with Japanese porcelain clay and fired at 1230°C.
