Nanbu tekki Gen Kuzumaki's handmade cast iron kettle URARA0.7L - Teapots & Teacups - Other Metals Black

Product Description

※Due to the hand-coloring process, there are individual differences in coloring. Selected Works for the 2022 Japan Folk Art Museum Exhibition. This is a handmade tetsubin (iron kettle) by Gen Kuzumaki, a master iron castor. Gen Kuzumaki studied under the third generation Kozan Maeda Tomoyuki of Kozan casting works. He has now established his own company, Nanbu Tetsubin 「Gurendo」, and creates tetsubin in his own unique style, while inheriting the traditional manufacturing methods and techniques of tetsubin. Gen Kuzumaki's tetsubin incorporates a modern design and approach while utilizing the cast iron skin characteristic of traditional Nambu tetsubin. Each piece is carefully finished using traditional techniques. Beautifully finished tetsubin. 「Urara」 is an iron kettle made with the image of overseas teapot designs in mind. It features a cute, plump design resembling an eggplant. By incorporating design elements of overseas teapots into the iron kettle, it has a classic and elegant feel, and you can enjoy the beauty of a mix of Japanese and Western styles. The tetsubin is named 「Urara」 in the hope that you will feel the warmth of the energetic spring sun in the hot water of the tetsubin. 「Urara」 is a Japanese word that describes a clear sky. This tetsubin was designed with ease of pouring and holding in mind. The shape, angle, and hole size of the spout are well balanced, making it easy to pour hot water. The handle is fixed and designed to fit securely in the hand. The overall weight of the tetsubin is light, making it easy to use and carry. Based on the idea that an tetsubin is a tool that serves a purpose in daily life, the design is simple and understated. Decorations and patterns are kept to a minimum, giving the tetsubin a clean overall impression. This tetsubin has a good balance of functionality and beauty. The surface of the tetsubin is decorated with a beautiful cast iron skin pattern. The surface of a cast iron kettle has minute unevenness, which is called a cast iron skin pattern. The cast skin pattern enhances the beauty of the tetsubin as a design that takes advantage of the traditional manufacturing method of casting and the characteristics of the material. The lid is also decorated with a cast skin pattern. The inside is finished with a rust-resistant finish using the traditional 「kama-yaki」 technique. Kamayaki is done by firing the tetsubin in a high-temperature oven. This process forms an oxide film on the surface of the tetsubin. The oxide film stabilizes the iron content of the tetsubin. The flavor of boiled water is improved and rust and corrosion are prevented. Rust-proofing by kettle firing is a traditional technique that has been handed down since ancient times. Natural lacquer baking finish on the outside. Natural lacquer baking finish is a traditional method of applying natural lacquer to the surface of the tetsubin and firing it. This process protects the surface of the tetsubin from rust and stains. Natural lacquer is also highly durable and keeps the texture and color of the tetsubin beautifully for a long period of time. The capacity is approximately 0.7L, which is the size you can use up. The 0.7L capacity is also considered easy to use and carry. It is neither too heavy nor too small, making it an easy-to-use size. Compatible with gas and induction cookers. ※Do not use on high heat. Doing so may cause cracks or holes.
