The residence gatehouse of the Taiwanese businessman Wu Luan-Chi in Taichung Park, which was formerly the main entrance gate to Wu’s residence, was built in 1889 while he served as the supervisor of the provincial capital designated by Liu Ming-Chuan. The red brick building of classical elegance was constructed with a hipped rooftop in Xieshan style with swallow-tail ridge and jade railings all around. The tile pattern found here is lily, it represents purity and self-restraint, nobility and elegance.
