About Wood Firing 'Wood firing' is a traditional firing method, burning at high temperatures above 1200 degrees Celsius using firewood. It features 'fire traces' naturally left by the firewood on the ceramic body, and the ash naturally falling from the burning wood, giving the works a warm, moist, and rich color variation, a realm unattainable by electric or gas kilns. Compared to ordinary electric and gas kilns, the entire process of wood firing, from loading the kiln, igniting, sealing, to cooling down, takes approximately 8-10 days. Furthermore, the high kiln pressure in wood firing, along with factors like climate humidity, wood dryness, human firewood-adding speed, and kiln loading position... can all lead to the success or failure of the work, with a higher damage rate. Experienced wood-firing artists consider the kiln's airflow speed when loading the kiln, planning the placement of works of different sizes, estimating the upward path of the flame, how to add firewood and charcoal, and the degree of firing heat.
