Tangcao (からくさ)
Tangcao is a creeping grass. The branches and stems of creeping plants grow and extend, and their vines are endless. People place auspicious meanings on them that are lush and long-lasting.
The prototype of the arabesque pattern in ancient Egypt is the lotus, which symbolizes rebirth and resurrection. As the arabic pattern from ancient Egypt later spread and exported, the lotus flowers on the stems were often imported into areas where they were common or special. Meaningful native plants were replaced to create a new "Tangcao" pattern.
