A glossy white glaze, admired for its lustrous texture and simple, pure white hue. A warm, rustic, and coarse red earthenware. This medium-sized plate is created by combining these two elements. It was fired not in our usual small electric kiln, but in the oil-fired kiln of a pottery studio we are currently collaborating with. The firing process utilized reduction firing, a method that creates an oxygen-deficient environment within the kiln. This technique imparts a deep, nuanced character that cannot be achieved with an electric kiln. The glaze used is also an original creation from the pottery studio, offering a unique color and texture that cannot be found elsewhere. A medium-sized plate typically measures about 15-18cm in diameter, making it suitable for use as a larger side dish plate, a plate for individual portions of side dishes, or a cake plate. This particular plate has a diameter of 15cm, making it on the smaller side for a medium-sized plate. Its size is perfect for serving small appetizers or as a side dish plate. Its versatile white surface complements any ingredient, making it a perfect companion for a wide array of dishes, from traditional Japanese cuisine to Western favorites. All stages of production, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, are meticulously done by hand in our studio, which is equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. While mass production is not possible, each piece possesses its own unique character, allowing you to enjoy the subtle nuances that come with handmade craftsmanship. The item you receive will be the exact one shown in the product images. The base of the plate has been carefully sanded to minimize any potential scratching of your table. We continuously explore new combinations of various clays and glazes, creating a diverse range of pottery in both color and form. Each piece is unique, appearing similar but truly one-of-a-kind. For this reason, we apply a water-blocking treatment to our tableware using a food-safe sealant before shipping, so there is no need for a preliminary soaking (mezoma). This water-blocking treatment requires 2-3 days to complete, which is why we set the shipping period to 5 days from the order date. If you do not require the water-blocking treatment, please inform us at the time of purchase. - Cutlery shown in the product images is not included. - We strive to photograph and edit product images to be as true to the actual item as possible.
