Mikage clay, with its characteristic milky tea-like reddish-yellow tone and speckled pattern. This rice bowl was made using this deeply flavorful ceramic clay, which retains a rustic coarseness reminiscent of its raw state. A brushstroke pattern is drawn across the entire surface with white slip, and the bowl is simply finished with a transparent glaze. The rim of the bowl is accented with an amber-colored glaze. A generous, larger size that allows for ample rice portions. Its simple texture and atmosphere, akin to a whole wheat biscuit, feel like a perfect match for mixed grains or seasoned rice. The entire process, from clay kneading and forming to bisquing, glazing, and final firing, is done by hand in my home studio, equipped with a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel. While mass production is not possible, each piece has its own unique expression, and you can enjoy their individual character. Due to the nature of the clay, this rice bowl is slightly heavier than others. The item you receive will be the same as pictured. Please understand that there may be small stones that pop out or minor cracks (that do not affect usability) and unevenness resulting from the coarse clay particles. Therefore, we generally apply a waterproofing treatment to all ceramic items before they are sent to you. Ceramic items that have undergone waterproofing treatment do not require initial water absorption treatment at home. After receiving them, a light rinse will be sufficient for immediate use. Items already treated will be shipped within 3 days.
