Scarves have always been a staple product for major womenswear brands, from ancient times to the present. While perhaps less commonly used by women in regions like Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Taiwan, women in Europe and America have a long-standing tradition of wearing scarves. These scarves have consistently held a significant price point. Pure silk possesses a soft, smooth, and lustrous texture. There are subtle differences between vintage and contemporary scarves. Vintage scarves are often lighter in weight, making them ideal for styling as headscarves, a popular practice in the past, or they can be elegantly rolled and tied around the hair for a modern Korean-inspired look. Modern scarves tend to be thicker, designed for warmth and sun protection. The versatility of scarves extends far beyond their use as neckwear. Vintage scarves, being lighter, are even more practical. Their exceptionally soft and breathable texture makes them suitable for spring, summer, and autumn in the Asia-Pacific region. They can be worn as a light shawl for sun protection without feeling stifling in summer. They also offer a gentle layer of warmth in air-conditioned spaces or during early autumn. However, for those who feel the cold easily, they might not provide sufficient warmth. Their extreme thinness means they take up very little space when folded, making them perfect for smaller bags (unless you have a "micro bag"... haha XD). If you want to save even more space, they can be rolled and tied onto a bag's strap or directly knotted beside the strap as a decorative accent. They can also be used to adjust the length of overly long straps (I can share details on how to tie them). Personally, I often use them for home decoration. I've long made it a habit to use large scarves, handkerchiefs, or silk scarves to cover idle items or decorative pieces at home, primarily to keep them dust-free. My home gets very dusty, and items left undisturbed for two days can accumulate a thin layer of dust. When a scarf used as a cover accumulates dust, I can simply take the whole piece and wash it, which is very convenient. Scarves with beautiful patterns can also be framed and hung as decorative art; many vintage clothing stores display scarves this way.
⚐⚑˒˒ This is an Italian-made, 100% silk shawl/scarf that comes with its original Celine paper bag. Due to minor flaws, the price is exceptionally attractive. When worn, these flaws are not noticeable as they are in subtle areas. There are a couple of pulled threads and some watermarks on a golden ring, but there are no pills or large areas of damage. The extent of the flaws is only apparent upon close inspection. The original tag area is intact. The pattern is clear and delicate, featuring the prominent golden Arc de Triomphe chain and planetary gold ring motifs. The color is a black border with a pale golden yellow hue. The texture and color transitions are incredibly exquisite in person! The thickness is moderate, neither excessively thin nor very thick, making it suitable for spring, autumn, and air-conditioned environments. Pure silk is absolutely breathable and has a natural sheen; it looks beautiful with a subtle glow in sunlight. Its generous size allows it to be worn as a shawl or neck scarf, and it can also be tied onto a bag. Because of the flaws, it is priced at half of its normal value, making it a very worthwhile purchase for personal use after cleaning!

A primary reason I am drawn to pre-owned bags is that the materials from older eras are vastly superior to those used in modern new items. In the past, most pre-owned items were meticulously handmade, imbued with a warmth that mass production lacked. The craftsmanship of artisans was undoubtedly far more refined than machinery. Just as everyone appreciates the creations of skilled craftspeople! Nowadays, the majority of processes are automated with minimal human assembly, losing the exquisite detail of the past. The simplest and most direct way to see this is by comparing the intricate details of vintage monogram patterns with the recently reissued versions from various brands; the level of detail alone is entirely different. If you love monograms, seek out pre-owned pieces! Truly!
In terms of style, older designs tend to be more simple, timeless, and enduring. Many current new designs are actually reproductions of older styles. However, new items are priced higher than vintage ones. New designs are typically based on older models, with added details or modifications, often resulting in a more complex (or sometimes peculiar...) final product than the original. As we grow older, we realize that simplicity often has lasting appeal! As we mature, even our clothing choices tend to return to basic styles because the more fundamental pieces are the most versatile.
The quality of raw materials in vintage pieces is superior to new items. Anyone familiar with leather can attest to this; the materials used in new items are often of a lower grade than vintage ones. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is too high today, and their availability is less than in the past, with global resources dwindling. Furthermore, brands in those days did not have the ubiquitous presence of numerous stores as they do now. Their clientele typically had a certain income level and higher expectations for the final product. There was no "fast fashion" culture back then; a bag was expected to be used for many years.
The difference between new and old is clearly visible in the hardware. The hardware on many new bags oxidizes and changes color after just a year or two of use, but this is rarely the case with vintage pieces. In addition to superior materials and meticulous craftsmanship, hardware from earlier eras was often plated with real K gold! It's worth noting that Chanel Vintage items are expensive for good reason; many of their clasps and chains contain real gold, verified by gold merchants! Therefore, even vintage bags from as early as the 1960s and 70s, if properly preserved, can still have gleaming hardware today. Among the new items available now, to my knowledge, none of the hardware contains K gold, making them prone to oxidation.
Many say that buying vintage bags is a form of alternative investment, as they rarely depreciate and often appreciate in value. This is because the number of well-preserved pre-owned bags on the market is dwindling, with each passing one becoming rarer. Remember, each one is a discontinued item; the number that exists in the world is finite, so they will only become fewer, more expensive, and harder to find. Moreover, many brands periodically increase their prices, and each increase drives up the market price of pre-owned items. If a brand releases a "reissue," the reference or similar vintage pieces will see a sharp price increase! Additionally, with the recent trend of Japanese and Korean celebrities using vintage items, the price of a particular model can skyrocket once an artist is seen with it. This leads to a surge of people frantically searching for that specific item or a similar alternative, causing prices for those few items to multiply exponentially. Therefore, vintage items truly offer "buy early, enjoy longer; buy late, pay more" (this isn't an advertisement slogan, but a truth in the vintage world...). This is based on my personal experience; I regret not acquiring certain collections earlier and now cannot find them, or if I do, they come with an exorbitant price tag. However, even when faced with such a price, one might be compelled to buy, as waiting for the next one will only mean a higher price (unless the condition is poor).
I often receive questions about bag maintenance (ᐢ.ˬ.ᐢ). Detailed care instructions will be included in a small note inside the bag, so you need not worry. My personal habit is to give my bags a thorough cleaning and maintenance when I tidy my closet at the change of seasons (which turns into a major undertaking each time...|||). In reality, pre-owned bags are not overly demanding. For newcomers, it simply requires forming the habit of regular maintenance and cherishing your bag. Once it becomes a habit, it's not difficult. The materials of pre-owned bags are inherently excellent. As long as they are not used roughly and are preserved properly, they can easily last another ten years and be passed down to your daughter! Each pre-owned bag is one that I personally love and collect, so I hope you will cherish it too and preserve it for the future ☪︎ *.。
