By carefully controlling the thickness of each glaze application and firing it at 1260°C for 20 hours of intense heat, the cup undergoes shrinkage and flow within the kiln. This process artfully recreates the intricate patterns and fluid motion reminiscent of a peacock's fanned tail feathers. The challenge in its firing lies in the precise control of each glaze layer's thickness and the delicate adjustment of the temperature curve. Too thin or insufficient heat will prevent the characteristic peacock feather patterns from forming, while too thick or excessive heat can cause the glaze to run onto the accompanying plate, potentially damaging both the teacup and the plate. Fluctuations in ambient temperature also influence the final outcome. Numerous factors contribute to its final appearance, and even after years of dedication, achieving perfect control over its subtle variations remains elusive. It is precisely this complexity that imbues the finished piece with its preciousness. It is my hope that through this work, others will be inspired to embrace hope when facing adversity, to persevere with unwavering effort, and that one day, like a peacock, they too will unfurl their magnificent feathers, bringing brilliance and radiance to their lives!
