Established in 1705 during the Hoei era, the renowned Kyoto-based incense master, Shoyeido, boasts over three centuries of tradition, now passed down through twelve generations. They continue to handcraft incense using time-honored techniques and natural ingredients. Many renowned Kyoto temples, including Kinkaku-ji, Ginkaku-ji, To-ji, and Kiyomizu-dera, utilize Shoyeido incense. The commemorative incense sticks available for purchase at these temples are also expertly crafted by Shoyeido. All incense products are meticulously handmade in their Kyoto workshops, adhering to ancient practices. Beyond incense, Shoyeido’s entire product line, from incense burners and holders to personal scent pouches, is made in Japan using the finest materials. Despite Shoyeido's considerable fame both in Japan and internationally, they maintain a select network of only nine directly managed stores across Japan, deliberately avoiding expansion through franchise systems to preserve the highest standards of product and service quality. For their global presence, Shoyeido rigorously vets the philosophy and operational integrity of each distributor, strictly limiting the number of official dealers to safeguard their century-old reputation. While incense does not have an expiration date, I-Siang Cultural and Creative ensures that enthusiasts in Taiwan can enjoy the freshest products by placing small, bi-monthly orders directly from the Kyoto headquarters to Taipei. This practice guarantees the optimal quality of the incense. Consequently, I-Siang has introduced seven distinct product lines, encompassing nearly fifty types of incense, alongside approximately forty different incense holders, dishes, and burners. This allows you to explore a wide selection of Shoyeido incense without needing to travel to Kyoto. Each box of incense includes a small, gray incense holder. This holder, designed for convenience, is made from natural horticultural soil, subjected to high-pressure molding. Each can be used for approximately eighty sticks of incense.
