This is the last calendar I found from my home in Taiwan. Although it's past its date, I truly love this collection of images. It honestly captures the mindset I had at the time, and each piece is perfectly sized to be cut out and used as home decor. The simple, rustic lines can easily blend into any interior style, while the vibrant colors can brighten up a space and bring energy.

The 2023 calendar genuinely reflects my creative state of mind throughout 2022. After living in Japan for five and a half years, navigating the competitive environment of Tokyo, I was constantly striving to create exceptional and distinctive works. I was learning how to refine my skills, stand out, and gain recognition.
During this process, my naturally intuitive approach to creation gradually became constrained by self-imposed frameworks and limitations. As my aesthetic standards rose, I found that the critical voice regarding my own work began to drown out my passion for creating.
So this year, I intentionally stepped away from my usual methods (acrylic paints, iPad) and picked up the black markers I loved using for doodles when I was first learning to paint. I also used my non-dominant left hand to depict scenes that frequently appear in my daily life—the Monstera plant at home, my adorable puppy, the cicadas of summer, a simple teacup, a fluttering butterfly, a small daisy blooming like the sun, and the elegant horses grazing by the roadside during my trip to Hokkaido. These also include my own longing for a state of fearlessness and boundlessness.
The calendar includes both individual pieces and works composed of various doodles pieced together. While they may not seem as technically accomplished as the more formally structured pieces I've created before, they feel incredibly authentic and warm to me. It's as if I'm telling myself that this relaxed creative state is also wonderful, filled with the joy of exploration. By loosening up, perhaps more internal resistance can yield to natural flow. And those ordinary scenes, existing somewhere without being the focal point, are perhaps what we should truly cherish.
