Collection Background:
The bronze Tiger-Shaped Zun is a type of ritual wine vessel from the Shang and Zhou dynasties, known as a zun when crafted in the form of birds or beasts. This particular piece is the only known tiger-shaped bronze zun unearthed from the Spring and Autumn period, making it extremely rare and precious. Sculpted in a full three-dimensional tiger form, it is known as the Tiger-Shaped Zun. The tiger's open mouth serves as the spout, and there is a round lid on its back connected by a chain. The tiger's eyes are wide open, ears pointed upright, with horns on its head, a short neck, robust body, and a curled tail forming the handle. The tiger has short legs, and the surface is decorated mainly with thunder patterns (leiwen), especially around the forehead and upper legs. This piece features a sophisticated artistic design and holds great significance as an ancient bronze wine vessel. It has been officially designated as an Important Cultural Artifact.
