Introducing Atelier Llewellyn's first one-on-one beginner sewing machine class!
Since launching our basic hand-sewing workshops, many students have inquired about other courses. Classes focused on machine sewing have consistently been among the most requested. As the designer, principal, and sole proprietor, my time is limited, and developing a new course requires careful consideration, demonstration, and refinement – from pacing the curriculum to ensuring the appropriate difficulty level for projects. While Atelier Llewellyn isn't primarily a teaching institution, our meticulous approach ensures that any course offered is something I genuinely enjoy and believe will be beneficial to students. Through the learning process, we hope to offer a glimpse beyond the perceived glamour of the fashion industry. You'll understand why well-made garments and textile products command higher prices and the hidden efforts and costs involved. Our core mission remains unchanged: we want students to understand the creation process of a garment through hands-on experience. This understanding empowers them to make informed choices, opting for well-crafted, quality pieces that last, thereby reducing fast fashion consumption and environmental impact. Change begins with us.
This single-session introductory course is designed for complete beginners with no prior sewing machine experience who are interested in a preliminary introduction. Participants will create a small project during the class, learning the basic principles and operation of a sewing machine, along with fundamental fabric ironing techniques.
This course exclusively utilizes straight-line stitching, offering a very basic introduction to sewing machine operation. The instructor will provide demonstrations and personalized assistance.
Students will complete one finished item: a coin purse with a snap frame.
Dimensions: Approximately 7cm (height, excluding snap frame) x 9cm (width at base) x 4cm (base depth). Snap frame size: 8.5cm.
**Note: The designer has selected a snug-fitting hardware to prevent items from falling out. Once installed, it may require a second hand for opening. Please consider this if you anticipate difficulty with the mechanism before registering.**
Materials: Outer fabric will be a printed cotton from the renowned British heritage department store, Liberty, or a printed cotton from American brand AGF (Art Gallery Fabrics). The lining will be Taiwanese cotton.
Use: Ideal for storing credit cards, business cards, coins, or small essentials like lip balm or lipstick.
