"Nanjie Yingfen" is a painting by Guo Xuehu that uses exaggerated and dramatic techniques to describe the lively festival scene at the Xiahai City God Temple on Dihua Street in Dadaocheng. The crowded town at the temple is busy and bustling, and colorful signs are everywhere. There are not only Taiwanese specialty gift shops that the Japanese need to buy when they return to the "mainland", but also Chinese herbal medicine shops and shops with English words on them. This shows the prosperity and diversity of Taiwan's business district at that time. The whole picture is also full of social reality and visual interest.

Kuo Hsueh-hu was born in Dadaocheng, Taipei. In his early years, he studied Chinese painting and watercolor with Chen Ying-sheng, and also learned painting from Cai Xue-xi. Later, he studied with Xiang Yuan Gu-tong. He focused on sketching, especially his observations of Taiwan's trees and rocks, and used rich and vivid gouache to express the unique local scenery, which made him shine in the official art exhibitions before the war. In 1964, he moved to Japan, where he used landscapes and still lifes as his creative themes. Influenced by Western painting, he emphasized three-dimensional expression. Afterwards, Guo Xuehu moved to the United States, where he continued to focus on landscape creation.
