**Introducing Yi Ran Zhi's New Collection: Original Handmade Designs, Customizable.**
The cinnabar is high-content Imperial Cinnabar from "Chun Qiu Yuan Chuang Shou Zuo."
The actual piece is even more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
**> About Cinnabar**
In the earliest written records, cinnabar was referred to by a single character, "丹" (dān). This character is a pictograph; it depicts an ancient mining pit, with a dot in the center representing something extracted from within. Thus, the character originally signified the mineral obtained from mining.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, and "朱" (zhū) also means red, "丹砂" (dān shā) eventually became known as cinnabar. "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes its form – irregular, granular mineral particles.
The color of cinnabar is enduring. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dān qīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is also the key component of the indispensable "Eight Treasures Seal Paste" used as ink.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have absorbed the essence of the sun and moon, gathering the pure energy of heaven and earth. Consequently, cinnabar possesses a potent yang energy field. You may notice that jade feels cool to the touch, whereas cinnabar held in the hand feels warm.
Historically, cinnabar has been indispensable in Taoist practices for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and dispelling negative energies. It has always been revered as a supreme element for improving luck, averting misfortune, expelling evil, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, prosperity, and well-being.
For us living in modern times, possessing a piece or two of cinnabar artistry can also cultivate our character, refresh our eyes, and nurture our hearts.
**> Care Instructions**
1. Avoid Corrosives
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can cause corrosion.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide component of cinnabar is released only at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar accessories to high-temperature environments, you can wear them with confidence.
4. Cleaning
If your cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this can alter its original luster! Instead, gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth. It will recover its shine after some time.
5. Oil Polishing Method
Apply a thin layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil. This will make it more lustrous and clear. After applying oil, you may seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapped in plastic film to prevent the oil from staining the box's lining.
6. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar accessories worn on your person. This allows a very thin layer of natural oils to adhere to the surface, lending it an ancient and elegant patina over time.
