【Workshop(s)】Spring Hariko Foal

Instructor Introduction Tseng Shi-Yun (Toriko) graduated from the Sculpture Department at the National Taiwan University of Arts. Her work primarily utilizes paper pulp, mixed media, and acrylic paints, existing between two and three dimensions. She crafts semi-3D pieces imbued with narrative. Her art explores inner emotions, memories, and sensory experiences, often using soft, symbolic forms to reflect personal psychological states and viewers' emotional projections. In recent years, Tseng has held numerous solo and group exhibitions, including "A Flowery World With You" (2024, Akishio Fish Art Center, Taipei) and "The Stars Know" (2025–2026, Blue Tile Space, Taoyuan). She has also participated in exhibitions like ONE ART Taipei, Taipei Illustration Fair, and the Yilan Award. Her work was recognized with an honorable mention in the sculptural category of the Yilan Award and was acquired by the Ministry of Culture's Art Bank in 2022. Her artistic language blends a childlike perspective with delicate emotions, shaping a unique and gentle contemporary art style. Course Description This course is based on the traditional Japanese toy, "Hariko Horse." It will guide participants through simple 3D sculpting, covering basic structure, proportion, and balance. We will then proceed to paper application and coloring, with the freedom to sculpt cute accessories like small animals, symbols, or patterns. The result will be a 3D piece that combines childlike charm with personal style. Teaching Content 1. Understanding the characteristics of Hariko horse shapes and 3D composition concepts. 2. Learning to simplify forms and grasp structure and stability. 3. Experiencing the texture and layers of paper pulp as a medium. 4. Developing personal character designs and decorative styles. 5. Completing a cute and symbolic 3D piece, approximately 12x8x7cm. 6. A beautifully embroidered cushion will be included with each finished piece. Course Information Date: March 28 (Sat) 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Duration: 3 hours Course Fee: $1780/person, including all materials (paper, paints, tools, packaging, venue). Finished Work: One unique Hariko horse sculpture (with accessories). Suitable For: Ages 12 and up, no prior experience necessary. Ideal for those interested in 3D art and paper sculpting.
