TIBUKKYO Taiwan Derong Collection | Raw Gemstone Masterpiece Un-dyed Blue Pietersite Bracelet 111.2-11.8mm | Plain Beads
(Photographed under natural light; the inner texture of Pietersite is more apparent under outdoor light)
Pietersite is a variety of Tiger's Eye, internationally known as Pietersite and also called the "Stormy Gemstone." It is formed when crocidolite or blue asbestos is intensely replaced and cemented by silicified silica gel, resulting in colors of brown, rust, yellow, and blue. It is a dense and hard quartz rock with a silky luster. As its composition has transformed into quartz, its hardness increases to 7, and its specific gravity decreases to around 3.1, classifying it as a high-grade gemstone material. Pietersite is sometimes also referred to as "Hawk's Eye" or "Falcon's Eye."
Also known as Tiger's Eye, it is a gemstone exhibiting a chatoyant effect, typically appearing yellowish-brown with silky fibrous bands within. Tiger's Eye is a variety of quartz, and this gemstone can be formed through the pseudomorphic replacement of silicified crocidolite fibers. The blue variant produced by an incomplete silicification process is known as "Hawk's Eye." It usually presents with black and yellow tones, resembling tiger stripes, or can have blue, yellow, and black intermingling, known as blue cat's eye. Often referred to as a "noble gemstone," cat's eye is frequently associated with mystical energies.
It is considered one of the world's five most precious high-grade gemstones, alongside alexandrite. Cat's eye is primarily found in pneumatolytic hydrothermal deposits and pegmatite veins. Tiger's Eye is a variety of crocidolite. The quartz fibers in Tiger's Eye are shorter and arranged more irregularly than in crocidolite, appearing like random, striped patterns. The world's largest deposits of Tiger's Eye and crocidolite are located in the Transvaal Province of South Africa, with other occurrences in Brazil, Henan in China, and elsewhere. The price is also dependent on its quality, with flawless surfaces and clearly defined, centrally located chatoyancy considered superior.
