Crafted from a uniquely blended clay, this bowl embodies the rustic and subtly coarse texture characteristic of earthenware. Shaped into a donburi bowl perfect for the cooler months, it is fired with a yamabuki (golden yellow) crystalline glaze that highlights its earthy appeal. The rounded, plump form blends traditional Japanese aesthetics with an undeniable sense of charm, creating a truly endearing vessel. Its generous depth allows you to enjoy two to three types of ingredients along with the broth during hot pot meals. Beyond hot pots, it's also ideal for dishes with flavorful broths like agedashi tofu or Jibuni, as well as for serving rich potage soups. Each piece is meticulously handcrafted, from the initial clay preparation and shaping to the bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, utilizing a small electric kiln and a potter's wheel in my home studio. Through experimentation with various glazes and clays, I continuously explore new combinations, creating a diverse range of pottery in both color and form. To address this, we apply a water-blocking treatment using a food-safe sealant before shipping, so no initial "seasoning" (medome) is required. This treatment takes 2-3 days to complete, hence our shipping timeframe of 5 days from order placement.
