Little Books of Taiwan animals - Formosan black bear

Story of the Book: The content is adapted from a real Formosan black bear’s story. Little bear and his mother had a happy life in the Daxueshan area,eating green oak, playing with water by the stream, sleeping with mother in the nest on the tree. One day the bear accidentally touched the animal trap and his right foot was clipped, his Mom was killed by illegal hunters, and little bear is taken home by a hunter. One day the national park police came to investigate, and then he was transferred to the Special Health Center for adoption, but because the bear cubs with one foot missing cannot survive in the wild, so little bear can only be contained permanently for the rest of his life. One of little bear’s foot is missing, walking will be very difficult for him, so as long as he can stay still, usually lie in a daze. Till now, the little bear is in his twenties, contained at Wushikeng Low Altitude Test Station. - About the Formosan black bear: ‘Formosan black bear’ is the only bear in the world that can build nests. In recent years, due to habitat destruction, illegal hunting caused by the culture of traditional Chinese medicine food supplements, and illegal installation of traps, black bears which have severed limbs cannot be survive in the wild. At present, there are only 200 to 600 black bears left in Taiwan. - About the Book: At the end of 2018, visual artist Weien Lee launched a fundraising plan for the work ‘Little Books of Specimens’ on the flyingV crowdfunding platform, which successfully reached more than 200% of the target. As the small book series is very popular, in the second half of 2020, the ‘Little Books of Animals from Taiwan’ will be launched. There will be five Taiwanese species and conservation animals.
