This is an SDGs ring featuring Kintsugi, upcycled from ceramics by Fukuyukigama, a Kyoto Kyo-yaki/Kiyomizu-yaki kiln located in Uji City, Kyoto Prefecture.
We reuse broken or chipped pottery that would otherwise be discarded, apply Kintsugi, and transform them into accessories.
The concept behind these pieces is to create modern accessories that connect to the future, allowing people to feel close to nature and Japan's enduring traditions, while giving new life and possibilities to these materials.
We have paired Kyo-yaki pottery fragments, hand-painted with delicate designs, with rhodonite and freshwater pearls.
The sides of the pottery fragments are also adorned with Kintsugi, allowing the gold to gleam beautifully from every angle and adding a touch of refined elegance.
The metal fittings are made of brass with a 14K gold plating, making them hypoallergenic and resistant to tarnishing, ensuring they can be cherished for a long time.
The ring size is 17mm (generally equivalent to a US size 7, though brand sizing can vary). It is an adjustable type, so the size can be expanded, making it comfortable for anyone to wear.
Motif size (pottery fragment & natural stone): 17 x 21mm
Metal fittings: Brass with 14K gold plating (hypoallergenic)
Weight: Despite being made of pottery fragments, they are lightweight and comfortable to wear.
As each accessory is a one-of-a-kind creation, they make for an ideal gift.
They are also perfect for surprising a loved one.
*The item pictured will be sent. However, if the item has already been sold on another platform, it may be produced to order. In such cases, please note that there may be individual differences in color, pattern, and size of the pottery fragments and natural stones compared to the pictured item.
* "Kintsugi" is a unique Japanese traditional repair method that mends broken or chipped ceramics using lacquer and gold powder. This work uses a modern, simplified Kintsugi technique. Unlike traditional methods using natural lacquer derived from the sap of the lacquer tree, this technique uses adhesive for the main bonding.
For the Kintsugi parts, we use lacquer (a commercially produced paint, not raw lacquer) and gold powder (brass powder, pearl powder), along with UV resin for reinforcement.
